Climate of Kashmir

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has three distinct climatic regions viz., Arctic cold desert areas of Ladakh, temperate Kashmir valley and sub-tropical region of Jammu. The Kashmir Valley has a cooler mountain climate.  Kashmir has four distinct seasons, viz spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season has its own peculiar character and distinctive charm.

Various Season of Kashmir

Spring Season

Spring in KashmirSpring season is usally from March to starting of May. It is this season that flowers blossoms the ground. The famous Tuliip Garden of Kashmir is open for this season and bloomig with flowers. The temperature is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 10 degree Celsius to 23 degree celsius. This season Kashmir gets brief rains.

Summer Season

Summers are usally from starting May to ending August. Summer in Kashmir Plains and other part of India are reeling under heat wave,but temperature and weather at this time in Kashmir valley is very pleasant. Temperature is usally ranges between 25 degree celcius to 35 degree celsius. It gets even cooler at heights. Valley is usally bubbling with green meadows,trees, rice fields. It is just like heaven in the lakes of Srinagar and meadows of Gulmarg and Pahalgam.


Autmn Season

 Autmn in KashmirAutmn extends from September to November. It is the most charming season of Kashmir. Temperatures ranges from 23 degree celsius to 10 degree celsius by Novmber. Woolen clothes are required in the season. In this season green leaves of trees turn golden and then to russet and to red. The Autumn season takes Kashmir’s natural magnificence to the next level. This is the time when the sun is not scorching and the cold is not agonising.


Winter Season

Winter in KashmirWinter season starts from December to the beginning of  March.  Snow-covered landscapes, bare look trees, beauty of hued gardens are features of winter season in kashmir. There is altogether different charm in the winter months. Kashmiri people warm themselves heated  ‘bukharis’, or "Kangris" a typically Kashmiri stove kept alight with embers of wood, quite effective in the winter. By the third week of December, Kashmir starts to feel real chill, and 40 days period after that is called "chille kalan" and it means intense cold.
